Great fire in the Centro Oberhausen: Christmas market evacuated!

On Thursday, December 19, 2024, a major fire broke out on the site of the Centro Oberhausen. The fire brigade fought for hours against the flames that shot out of the former China restaurant "Pagoda", which had not been in operation for a long time. Because of the strong smoke development, the Christmas market had to be evacuated, as Derwesten.de reported.

The first emergency services were alerted at 5:19 p.m. The first measure was the clearing of the Christmas market. At 8 p.m., the fire brigade reported that the situation was under control, but several emergency services remained on site for observation. Two fire trucks with a total of around 60 firefighters were deployed. However, there were no injured people. The operation of the purchasing center and the "Flachaualm" were not affected, and the public transport route could continue to be used.

Delimity nests were deleted overnight. On Friday morning, December 20, Centro Oberhausen announced that the fire was completely deleted. The Oberhausen fire brigade confirmed that there was nothing in the way of reopening the Christmas market. The Christmas market could take place again on Friday at the usual times from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Centro Oberhausen thanked the emergency services for the quick control of the situation. Nevertheless, there are ambiguities about the future of the burned-out "Pagoda" building. Earlier plans for the China restaurant could now be put on hold due to the fire. Memories of a similar incident on New Year's Eve 2012 were awakened when the Irish Pub "An Crannóg" was destroyed by a fire and not reopened, as
