Oberhausen looks back: 150 years of change and new hopes!

On December 31, 2024, Mayor Daniel Schranz reflected on the essential events of the past year in his greeting at the turn of the year. In his speech, he mentioned the persistent wars in Ukraine and the Middle East as well as the swearing-in of Donald Trump as US President on January 20 and the early Bundestag elections on February 23. These circumstances had triggered concerns about the world and federal political and economic situation, especially after the attacks in Solingen in August and Magdeburg shortly before Christmas, which further reinforced these fears.

Schranz also looked back on the 150th anniversary of the ceremony of city rights to Oberhausen, a fact that underlines the important historical change of the city. This development ranges from small farmsteads to a big city that attracts 20 million visitors annually. A Highlight of change in 2024 was the exhibition "Planet Ocean" in the Gasometer, which recorded over 850,000 visitors in nine months and has been the most successful exhibition of the past 25 years. In addition, the metronome theater was reopened and the company Air Liquide invested 45 million euros in a climate -neutral hydrogen production, the largest electrolysis system in Germany will be built on the grounds of the Ruhrchemie.

New educational concept and district development

In the education sector, the foundation of a new comprehensive school in the former Niederrheinkolleg was celebrated, which has been the first new school building for almost 50 years. Schranz also emphasized numerous projects for district development projects that were realized in the course of the year, including the opening of the Osterfeld district center with library, youth center and event hall, as well as the redesign of Marktstrasse in Alt-Oberhausen. Furthermore, the new rescue guard Süd in Alstaden went into operation, and the detailed planning for the conversion of the Sterkrad town hall to the music school accepted forms.

The financing of these projects was largely due to funding, which has supported the successful change in Oberhausen in the past 150 years. Finally, Schranz expressed his wish for a peaceful and successful year 2025.

In another context, the party illuminated the Greens' need for cohesion and justice for social progress. According to a contribution on the Greens website, it is crucial to grant everyone's same opportunities and fair wages. The goals include not only good wages, but also the responsibility of the rich for the common good. It is pointed out that the tax system has gaps that are exploited by super -rich, and there are measures to close these gaps, for example in Share Deals in real estate taxation.

In addition, the aim is to tackle the talenting of work and capital income. A higher minimum wage of 15 euros by 2025 is also to be introduced, as it were for less than 18 year olds. In addition, programs such as “Living Democracy” are to be secured by a Democratic promotion law and discrimination against measures, as is addressed on the Greens' website.
