Bakery trade under pressure: Politics meet future topics in Olpe!

On February 26, 2025, Dr. Gregor Kaiser, member of the state parliament of the Greens, and Matthias Koch, candidate for the Bundestag of the same party, the first German bakery school in Olpe. They were accompanied by Karin So part, the head of the constituency office of Dr. Emperor. The aim of the visit was to find out about the challenges and concerns of the baker's trade.

The delegation was led by Christian Bertelsbeck, the headmaster of the technical school, Wolfgang Vollmer and the managing director Henning Funke. The focus of the talks focused on various demands that the baker's trade places on politics. Henning Funke emphasized the urgency of modernizations in working time law to relieve the profession and enable long -term working hours on Sunday.

claims and challenges

A central point was a detailed catalog of claims that Funke to Dr. Emperor handed over. This requested measures such as the reduction of taxes and social security contributions as well as relief for energy costs. In addition, the reduction in bureaucracy, especially with regard to the application for the master BaFöG, was addressed. Funke emphasized the relevance of funding measures such as the Meister-BaföG and the master's foundation premium.

Another aspect of the discussion was the importance of immigration for the bakery trade. Funke appealed to the politicians to enable immigration to attract specialists for the industry.

minimall wages and training allowances

A hopeful trend, on the other hand, shows up in the field of training. On January 28, 2025, a new collective agreement was signed between the Food Guest Gaststätten union (NGG) and the central association of the German bakery trade. This aims to make the bakery trade more attractive and future -proof. From March 1, 2025, the training allowances increase to 1,020 euros gross in the first year, 1,090 euros in the second year and 1,230 euros in the third year. Another increase of 50 euros is planned for March 2026.

In addition, the trainees are given the opportunity to use part of their remuneration to finance a monthly public transport ticket. This collective agreement is in the context of declining training numbers in many industries and is considered an important step to promote young talents and to improve the competitiveness of the baker's trade.

Overall, it can be seen that the bakery trade apparently is actively working on solutions in order to assert itself in a changing world of work. The conclusion of the collective agreement is not only considered a step to strengthen the industry, but could also serve as an example of other craft sectors that are faced with similar challenges.
