Dinosaur fascination: Olper experts bring back the prehistoric period!

On January 10, 2025, an exciting event will take place in the community center on the square, in which the two dinosaur fans Stefan Schröder and Dr. Achim Schwermann share their passion for paleontology with the public. Schröder, a social worker at the LWL school center in Olpe, published his first book entitled "Paläo-Nerds: Dinosaurs, the longing for adventure and the legacy of past" in 2024, which reports on his lifelong fascination for prehistoric times. Dr. Schwermann, on the other hand, is a scientist at the LWL Museum for Natural History in Münster and has made significant contributions to researching past era in the course of his career.

The two authors met during an excavation in Balve-Beckum, where Schwermann has been leading dinographs for eight years. This excavation has already revealed many significant finds that not only flow into the scientific understanding of dinosaurs and their time, but also shed light on the legacy of the earth's history in North Rhine-Westphalia. Dr. Schwermann is also a co -author of the book "Sunken Worlds", which deals with the 400 million years of earth history in this region. On Tuesday, January 28th, at 7 p.m., they will talk about the history of the earth in the community center.

The fascination of paleontology

Paleontology is science that deals with the life of past epochs and examines the fossil remains of animals and plants. Fossils, be it bones, teeth, mussels, plants or footprints, are the remains that are preserved over millions of years under specific conditions. These remains give us important insights into the evolution and development of life on earth, whereby they also promote the understanding of transitional forms and different habitats.

The age determination of fossils is carried out by methods such as stratigraphy that examines the layer of the earth, and radiometry, in which isotope measurements are used. The latest techniques such as 3D scans offer precise analyzes of these valuable remains. The best -known fossil finds, such as the skeleton of the Tyrannosaurus Rex or the famous fossil "Lucy", enrich our knowledge enormously.

important fossil finds and their findings

fossils are not only the remains of ancient life forms, but also tell the history of life on earth. The dinosaurs, who contributed over 160 million years to the earth's history, is particularly fascinating. Dinosaurs research the body, the behavior and causes of the extension of these reptiles. Understanding these prehistoric giants helps us to underpin the theory of evolution, which was significantly shaped by the work of scientists like Charles Darwin.

The plurality of paleontology includes areas such as paleozoology, paleobotany and micropalaonology. These disciplines not only analyze the fossil remains, but also their living environment and the ecological conditions at that time. Through the cooperation between scientists such as Schröder and Schwermann, it becomes clear that the fascination for dinosaurs and the history of the earth remains across generations and is kept alive through new knowledge. Participation in the event in the community center on the square could therefore be a valuable opportunity for interested parties to learn more about these exciting topics and to experience the contributions of the two experts.
