Lions Club Olpe-Kurköln is a record with 33,000 euros for local projects!

The Lions Club Olpe-Kurköln has reached a remarkable milestone this year. In the Hotel Diehlberg in but the club handed over the income from the sale of the advent calendar, which reached a record amount of 33,000 euros. The total donation of the club for the first time exceeds the million mark, which enhances the over 30 years of action on the tradition and matter of the heart for the region. Every year, the advent calendar campaign will flow around 30,000 euros into a wide variety of projects that benefit the community.

The donations collected benefit numerous facilities and initiatives. Among other things, this includes the important work of the Olper Tafel , which supplies around 900 to 1000 people annually. Marianne Ebert, a representative of the Olper Tafel, emphasizes the need for donations to secure the continued existence of help.

The Advent Calendar campaign took place for the 13th time this year and comprises over 260 prizes with a total value of around 32,000 euros. Thanks to the support of 140 sponsors who came together despite the challenges of the Covid 19 pandemic, 7,000 calendars were sold. These are available in branches of the Sparkasse Olpe-Drolshagen-Wenden, the Volksbank Olpe-Wenden-Drolshagen and the Linden pharmacy in Olpe.

The donation recipients also include senior citizens' and elderly care facilities such as the Gerberweg in Olpe, the St. Gerhardus House in Drolshagen and the St. Josefs House in Wenden. In the past twelve years, the advent calendar donated a total of 263,000 euros for local purposes.

Diverse projects for promoting the community

The use of the donations is diverse. An outstanding project that is promoted is a study trip by the Biggesee Academy for young people aged 16 and over to Weimar, in which topics such as culture of remembrance and international understanding are treated. In addition, a chicken coop for the Stupperhof residential group in the Josefshaus in Drolshagen is financed in order to strengthen the sense of responsibility of around 200 children supervised there.

Another important project is the "coolness training" at the Janusz Korczak School in Grevenbrück, which trains socially disadvantaged young people in dealing with aggression. This training has also been offered at the secondary school Olpe-Drolshagen since 2025, and the teachers report on a stronger reflection of the behavior and communication of the students.
