Stop the wind power conzing: Petition for Kirchhundem started!

In the municipality of Kirchhundem, there is resistance to the planned construction of additional wind turbines. An online petition that turns against the construction of wind turbines outside of wind pramings already records a large number of supporters. The initiators, including Wolfgang Exner, Rainer Reichling and Tim Hoffmann, argue that the planned wind systems could have significant negative effects on the region. Openpetition reports that in particular the protection of cultural monuments, such as the pilgrimage church of Kohlhagen, is in danger.

The current planning stipulates that almost 5% of the municipal area, i.e. around 650 hectares, are intended for wind energy. This significantly exceeds the value of 1.8% required in North Rhine-Westphalia. In addition, eight wind turbines are planned on one of the oldest FFH and nature reserves in the district of Olpe, which is contrary to the decision of the municipality of Kirchhundem. Rothaarwindwahn explains that numerous investors are already preparing building projects and contacting property owners to advance the wind power projects.

threats to nature and quality of life

The initiators of the petition express considerable concerns about the destruction of landscape aesthetics and the historical landscape. These changes could not only affect the quality of life of the residents, but also lead to the loss of real estate. Other negative effects include increased noise pollution and a feeling of tightness for the citizens. In addition, the destruction of valuable forest areas and cultural areas threatens.

The planned wind turbines are not only a challenge for the residents, but also endanger sensitive ecosystems. The locations of the wind turbines are located in a landscape protection area of the district of Olpe, which could seriously affect the protective purpose of this area. There are also FFH areas nearby, in which endangered species such as the black stork and various types of bats breed. The “Rothaar Windwahn” citizens' initiative was founded to work for the preservation of the quality of life and against the surrounding with wind turbines.

political and legal challenges

The approval of the wind turbines could be legally problematic. According to Section 35 (3) sentence 3 BauGB, it is pointed out that approval due to the situation outside the concentration areas shown in the land use plan may not be granted. In addition, residents fear that microclimatic effects through the wind turbines could influence the atmospheric currents in the region. These aspects prove the complexity of the current situation and the need for a balanced energy transition.

The citizens therefore not only require a stop of the planned wind power projects, but also a policy that meets the needs of the residents and the requirements for nature conservation. The continuing disagreement on wind power development in the region makes it clear that careful handling of nature and culture is essential in the energy transition. In addition, studies show that Windkraft in landscape protection areas often encounters considerable resistances.
