Snow chaos in Germany: strong snowfalls and frost for the weekend!

Intensive snowfall will meet large parts of Germany from Thursday, as the German Weather Service predicts. Particularly strong snow is expected in North Rhine-Westphalia and North Brandenburg.

On Wednesday evening, the snowfalls begin in the south of North Rhine-Westphalia, with a few centimeters of fresh snow in particular. On Thursday, strong snowfalls across the entire district of North Rhine-Westphalia to North Brandenburg are predicted, whereby more than 10 centimeters of fresh snow could fall in just 12 hours. This weather situation is influenced by a storm deep over southern Scandinavia that brings moderately cold sea air to Germany.

weather forecast and thermal differences

In addition, the portal St.Testterzentrale.de indicates that snowfall is also expected in the northern low mountain ranges on Thursday night. The weather conditions are shaped by an air mass border, an area in which two air masses of different temperature or moist meet without any other. Such air mass borders can be between 20 and 200 kilometers wide and are therefore crucial for increased precipitation along these lines.

In the forecast for Thursday, it is also mentioned that rain is increasingly to be expected in the middle and southern parts of the country, while the northern parts of the country remain largely dry. Strong winds are reported in the south and southwest, local gusts of wind are possible.

Another weather situation that announces itself on Thursday will be given by the newly approaching deep Charly, which comes from Atlantic and will also bring rain and snowfall. Already on Wednesday there will be showers in many regions, while there is snow and glading in higher altitudes.

The temperatures vary greatly: In the north it can get 4 degrees on the North Sea coast, while it can be up to -4 degrees in the southeast of Bavaria. The weather reporting indicates increasingly changeable weather, which can also bring pleasant milder temperatures, especially in Breisgau.
