After 50 years in the service of the savings banks, Dieter Kohlmeier retired in a solemn ceremony on April 3, 2025 in the Olpe town hall. In the past 30 years he had had a significant influence on the development of the institute as the board of Sparkasse Olpe-Drolshagen-Wenden. The event was attended by numerous representatives of the Sparkassenverband Westfalen-Lippe, the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe as well as guests of honor and colleagues to pay for Kohlmeier's merits.
The Sparkasse experienced sustainable success under Kohlmeier's management. The total assets were reverse to 1.3 billion euros, and customer deposits and lending also increased significantly. One of the challenges that Kohlmeier had to deal with during his term were the introduction of the euro in 2002, the financial crisis, negative interest policy and the Corona pandemic. Mayor Peter Weber, the chairman of the board of directors, emphasized the importance of this internal succession plan for the continuity and stability of the company, especially in terms of support for employees and customers. The increase in the board to three members is also considered a strategic decision in order to be prepared for the future retirement of Wilhelm Rücker in four to five years. After Rückers departure, the Sparkasse will lead together.
