Traffic transition in Paderborn: underpass at the Eggeststraße level crossing!
The construction site on the L755 state road in Paderborn-Benhausen takes on concrete forms. From September 2024, extensive earth and road construction work should begin at the new underpass structure at the "Eggeststrasse" level crossing. These measures are part of a larger project to eliminate the level crossing, which has been planned for several years and is intended to increase both traffic safety and accessibility for emergency vehicles and regular buses, such as Strassen.nrw.de reported.
The first construction phase stipulates that the work outside the street area is completed. From the end of the month, the connection of the state road and accompanying walking and bike paths to the underpass will take place. This leads to the full closure of the L755 section during construction work, which can lead to traffic disruptions. Readings are set up via the L937 "Im Knick" to B64 and further via the K29 (George-Marshall-Ring). The Papenberg residential area remains accessible, but only from Benhausen during the second construction phase, such as nw.de added.
design and cost
The entire project to remove the level crossing not only includes the conversion of the L755, but also the relocation of the “Papenberg” community street and the creation of safe crossing points for pedestrians and cyclists. The completion of the road construction work is expected in November 2025, whereby the construction work is expected to be divided into several sections. Overall, the project costs around 8.4 million euros, whereby the financing is shared by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Federal Republic of Germany and DB Netz AG. There are additional costs for the city of Paderborn, which takes over the sidewalk areas.
The project starts at the underpass structure, which is located about 270 meters west of the "Papenberg" confluence and extends south over a distance of 850 meters. The L755 road will receive a width of 6.50 meters, while the accompanying bike path on the northern side will be 2.50 meters wide. 1.50 meters are planned for the sidewalk on the west side.
renovation offensive and infrastructure
This construction work is part of the redirement offensive of the Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport, which aims to improve the street infrastructure in North Rhine-Westphalia. In 2024, 42 replacement buildings and a comprehensive renovation of 246.2 kilometers of state and federal roads are planned. Transport Minister Oliver Krischer emphasizes how important a functioning infrastructure is for the population and the economy, which also illustrates the urgent need for projects such as the L755, such as Land.nrw determined.
The construction at the “Eggestraße” level crossing will not only increase traffic safety, but also make a significant contribution to the general improvement of the infrastructure in the Paderborn region. Ultimately, the new route should optimize the flow of traffic, which benefits both residents and the road users.
