Politics in change: Trump's return and their consequences for Germany!

Today is December 31, 2024. The 75th anniversary year of the founding of the Federal Republic of Germany ends with a view of the coming year, which will bring numerous challenges. As early as 2024, many of these challenges were debated.

On January 20, 2025, Donald Trump will move into the White House again and plans to sign over 20 decrees on his first day of office that will have a significant impact on Europe and Germany in particular. Among the planned measures include restrictions on immigration law and a return to fossil fuels. The handling of the Russian war in Ukraine will also be affected by these decrees, which could also increase international tensions. Elon Musk also recommended the alternative for Germany (AfD) what could bring potential changes in the political landscape of Germany.

economic and political views

The Bundestag election 2025 will be crucial for the basic orientation of domestic politics, even if the majority remains unclear, as the example of the minority coalition in Saxony shows. In Germany, citizens show great interest in local topics such as health care, childcare, schools and living costs. This could also influence the mood on politics in the local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in September 2025.

Siegfried Russwurm, the outgoing president of the Federal Association of German Industry (BDI), expresses that politics in Berlin is often far from everyday life for citizens. In order to secure the stability of the Republic by the end of 2025, the ditch between citizens and politicians must be overcome.

At the same time, a possible new edition of the presidential duel between Joe Biden and Donald Trump is evident. Despite the lack of certainty about the outcome, Trump could try to turn back the achievements of bidges, in particular the inflation reduction act and the infrastructure law. In the past, Trump has repeatedly made false claims about climate policy, which makes it fear that he could slow down measures to combat climate change even during a possible second term.

Another aspect is Trump's plan to limit the powers of the environmental protection authority (EPA) and to promote the development of fossil fuels. This could also result in a renewed exit from the USA from the Paris climate agreement, which would heavily burden international climate policy. According to an analysis, Trump's power over federal authorities could not be absolute, since many of his measures were blocked during his first term.

Republicans already tried to take out tax advantages for renewable energies in April 2023, which shows that climate policy will remain a central component of the political agenda for the coming years. The 2025 project from the Heritage Foundation and other former officials should offer a coherent agenda for a possible Trump-Amtszeit, while Trump could try to select his personnel more strategy to avoid future scandals.
