Free seeds for species -rich meadows - now in the Recklinghausen district!
The district of Recklinghausen starts the sixth edition of his popular "Free Sowing" campaign on March 13, 2025. This initiative of the Lower Nature Conservation Authority aims to counteract the decline in species -rich meadows and create habitats for insects. From this date, citizens, clubs and associations can receive seeds for flower meadows free of charge.
To achieve a broader target group, two different seeds are available. The flower meadow mix is ideal for larger areas and contains 39 plant species, including 29 flower plants and 10 grasses. It can be requested for areas of 10 m² to 1,000 m². The hem mixing, on the other hand, is suitable for smaller areas, such as along fences. This mixture consists of 37 flower plants and 2 types of grass and is available for 1 m² or 10 m².
seed distribution and application
The seeds should be applied in a well -prepared seed bed between March and mid -April and then rolled up. It is important to note that the full flower is sometimes only carried out in the following years. From the date mentioned, the seed is distributed not only in the Recklinghausen district house, but also at various pick -up points. In Dorsten, the city information and the town hall are shown as collection locations.
The program for free seed distribution comes in a context that is becoming increasingly important. The loss of biodiversity is an urgent problem that not only threatens the local species, but also endangers the stability of the ecosystems. This is also confirmed by Europarl.europa.eu Biodiversity loss. The EU has therefore launched a biodiversity strategy for 2030 to ensure the restoration and protection of ecosystems by 2050.
biodiversity strategy of the EU
As part of this strategy, at least 30 percent of the EU's land and sea areas are to be protected by 2050. It is also sought that ten percent of these areas remain largely unaffected. The strategy pursues the goal of saving the pollinator populations and therefore promises an urgent revision of the existing initiatives for pollinators EUR-Lex.europa.eu .
The comprehensive measures to combat the main causes for the loss of biodiversity include the reduction of agrochemical pesticides and the promotion of ecological farming. These steps are crucial to give nature the opportunity to relax. Initiatives such as the free distribution of seeds in Recklinghausen are important building blocks in this comprehensive plan to support biodiversity and meet the efforts of the EU for a sustainable future
