Giant alarm in Recklinghausen: Heating power plant in flames!
On Friday, March 14, 2025, a serious fire broke out in a biomass custody plant in Recklinghausen-Suderwich. The cause of the fire is currently still unknown, but the police have started investigations to clarify the exact circumstances. Fortunately, all employees were able to bring themselves to safety in good time, which caused no injured person. The fire brigade was alerted at 8:25 a.m. when the visible column of smoke was already recognizable during the arrival of the emergency services.
The alarm was immediately increased to the highest level, F5, which led to a large contingent of the Recklinghausen fire brigade and the neighboring cities. A hydraulic unit with around 400 liters of hydraulic oil had been fully burned. For this reason, a nationwide warning was issued via the Nina Warnapp, which asked the residents to keep windows and doors closed in order to protect themselves from possible smoke loads. This warning was lifted again at 10:10 a.m.
missions and support
The fire brigade was able to control the fire around 11:00 a.m. The post -extinguishing work required extensive measures in which extinguishing water and extinguishing foam were used. As part of the mission, a drone was also used for the presentation of the position and exploration, which provided the operations management valuable information. Overall, the operation lasted until 12:15 p.m., whereby the German Red Cross provided support for the catering of the emergency services.
For efficient fire fighting, fire brigades from Datteln, Dorsten, Castrop-Rauxel, Haltern am See, Gladbeck and Marl were also used. Volunteers from Hochlar and Suderwich secured basic protection for further possible operations. Particular caution was also necessary, since an automatic fire message was also triggered from a nearby hospital.
The exact amount of damage is still unclear and depends on the investigation by the police. The affected heating power plant had not yet been rated for business ability, the fire brigade referred to the operators for this information. Against the background of these missions, it is important to look at the general fire situation, overall a report by the CFS CTIF about fire statistics shows that fire protection incidents still represent great challenges in many countries. Local compass reports that the incident in Recklinghausen-Suderwich required an intensive response from the fire brigade and the safety of the population came first, while Ruhr24 added that the cause of the fire may have arisen during maintenance.
