Full closure of the A43: Start massive construction work in the Ruhr area!
In May 2025, essential traffic restrictions for drivers in the Ruhr area are pending. On Friday, May 9, at 9 p.m. to Monday, May 12th, at 5 a.m., the A43 motorway between Bochum and Recklinghausen will be completely closed due to extensive construction work. These measures can be seen as part of a long -term expansion of the A43, which will probably last until 2030. The project includes, among other things, the new building of the Baukau tunnel, which connects the A43 in the direction of Münster with the A42 towards Oberhausen. During the construction work we also demolished an old railway bridge, which is a completely necessary measure for traffic safety.
At the same time to block the A43, the A42 in Herne will also be affected. This is also blocked in both directions between Duisburg-Baerl and Duisburg-Beeck on the same weekend. The background to these measures is to check the ropes of the Rheinbrücke Beeckerwerth. Readings via the A40, A57 and A59 are recommended, which can also be associated with longer waiting times. [WDR] reports that the A43 is a central traffic axis in the Ruhr area on which around 90,000 vehicles are on the road.
diversions and traffic disruptions
For the closures mentioned, a large -scale diverted traffic can be expected. Alternatives are set up via the A2, A40 and A45. These detours could result in additional traffic jams due to the increased traffic volume. The [Ruhr24] also emphasizes that not only the bridge breakdown work is carried out during the full closure of the A43, but also maintenance on the barrier system and the breakdown of old Schilderbrücken.
In addition, it is important to note that the blocked closures are part of a comprehensive expansion that should significantly improve the transport infrastructure in the region. This will probably not be the last restriction, since further closures and traffic disruptions can be expected in the coming months. Road users are therefore well advised to adapt to these developments at an early stage.
The current work and closures are not only a challenge for traffic, but also another step towards a modern and powerful infrastructure in the Ruhr area.
