Family Doğan in Need: Deportation threatens integration in Remscheid!

The family history of the Doğans from Remscheid has been shaped by dramatic twists in the past few weeks. On April 26, 2025, numerous media report on the desperate situation of this family, which has lived in Germany since 2018 and has been well integrated. The federal government has initiated deportation efforts against the family.

In the middle of the past month, four of the eight family members, including the mother, were taken by the authorities in the middle of the past month. The father, Nezir Doğan, desperately reacted to this situation and jumped out of the window, which led to serious injuries, including arm, back and several ribs. After countless worries, he has now been released from the hospital, but continues to receive physiotherapy and urgently needed psychological support. Despite these treatments, severe pain is still plagued.

The life of the Doğan family

The Doğan family consists of several members who have integrated well in Germany. In addition to the father Nezir (55 years), who works as a gardener, and mother Saadec (47 years), who works as a housewife, daughter Mizigin (23 years, medical assistant), Nazdar (22 years, nurse in a psychiatric clinic), ELIF (19 years, in nursing training), Azad (17 years, in baker training), and the two youngest children Melek (13 Years) and advisory (7 years). Despite the challenges in front of which they are facing, the family is actively working to contribute to society.

According to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, Nezir Doğan's asylum application was rejected, even though it is politically persecuted as a Kurd in Turkey. The petition platform Openpetition.de started a call to support the family, which was launched by Önder Bariscioglu on March 20. The aim of this petition is to collect 1,300 signatures from Remscheid in order to draw attention to the inhuman aspects of deportation.

Community call to support

So far, almost 2,000 people have signed the petition, with over 850 signatures from Remscheid. The petition is aimed directly at Mayor Burkhard Mast-Weisz to enable the return of the deported family members. The demands are clear: the Doğans should be united so as not to tear apart the family.

The situation of the doğans shows how deep the effects of deportations on affected family members who endeavor to build up a new life. In view of the difficulties and the shared hope of a fair judgment, it remains to be seen how this story will develop. Support to cover legal fees is also a central point to help the family in their fight.
