House Cleff in Remscheid: After 16 months of reopening with Tillmans!

After over eleven years of standstill, the historical Haus Cleff April 12, 2025 reopened. This long -awaited reopening follows a comprehensive renovation that aims to transform the building over 200 years old into an inviting cultural place.

To meet these challenges, the outdoor area is prepared as an interim solution until the opening. The planned work includes cutting plants, renewing gravel, painting fences, setting up benches and cleaning stones and attaching lights.

a hospitable concept

The house Cleff will not only act as an exhibition space, but should also accommodate a MuseumScafé . A “Café Biedermeier” and a museum shop are planned. The city has the intention of delegating part of the responsibility to the "Förderverein of the House of Cleff", which can generate income from guided tours, rentals and the museum shop.

The historical building, which has been owned by the city since 1927, will continue his concept under the title "Living Commercial Contain of the 18th Century - the way from the merchant's seat to the factory system". Selected examples should show how Remscheid merchants became manufacturers. The future use of the house depends heavily on the amount of the funding that the city has to submit quickly.

In addition, the old Kotten are renovated behind the house. Kotten 1 to 3 receive museum equipment, while Kotten 2 is equipped with new lighting and water and electric connection for mobile catering. The total costs for the renovation of the house amount to at least three million euros, with additional costs for the establishment of the museum.

The German tool museum and the house club planning close cooperation to promote cultural exchange and the connection to regional history. 46 candidates have applied for the vacant position of the head of the German Tool Museum, whereby the position is expected to be occupied again in the middle of the year.

The anticipation for the reopening of the Cleff house is great. The combination of art, history and a new, hospitable concept promises to revive the cultural life in Remscheid.
