Left Party and Real. Remscheid: Alliance against Outlet Center in Lennep!

The political landscape in Remscheid is changing with a new alliance. The factions of the Left Party and the electoral group of real. Remscheid have formed a joint faction. This was announced on January 29, 2025 and is intended to strengthen political influence in the city council. The new cross -faction cooperation is borne by Peter Lange and Axel Behrend, both members of the Left Party, as well as Bettina Stamm, the only candidate of Echt.Remscheid in the city council.

The foundation of this faction is a strategic step that opens up greater opportunities for the trio to contribute applications and concerns in the political debates of the city council. The Left Party had previously shrunk to a group of councils after Brigitte Neff-Wetzel left her parliamentary group. Bettina Stamm, which was elected to the city council in 2020, takes over the chair of the new faction and emphasizes the relevance of this cooperation for upcoming decisions, especially with regard to the upcoming local elections.

political priorities and critical applications

A central concern of the new faction is the rejection of the planned outlet center in Remscheid-Lennep. Last Monday, the city council voted for the basic decision to settle the project without providing binding information and results of the citizens' conferences. These so-called "Lennep conferences" took place without any significant success, which was critically noted by the council members. Peter Lange expressed that the voices of the citizens had been ignored, although hundreds of citizens brought their ideas and ideas.

An important topic of the discussion was the proposal for a citizens' decision, which was, however, rejected. Colin Cyrus, district representative in Lennep, said that the current procedure was far too hasty and there are numerous open questions. He pays a particularly critical focus on the forecast 1600 parking spaces, which are probably inadequate for the size of the outlet center.

sustainability issues and citizen participation

The concern for the sustainability of the project is another central topic. Brigitte Neff-Wetzel criticized the contradictions between the city's investments in sustainability concepts and the effects of such a project that seals areas and falls trees. The newly found faction plans to accompany the process critically and constructively and is committed to ensuring that all open questions, such as traffic or the effects on the neighborhood, are processed. A committed exchange with the population is sought.

A study of politics to touch e. V. shows that the interfaces between local politics and citizen participation are often inadequate. This result underlines the need for transparent and clear communication. The desire for more inclusiveness and diversity in the participation is also available in Remscheid. The scientific contact to such questions is from Dr. Thomas Kuder, senior scientist at VHW e. V., conveyed that is committed to strengthening local democracy.

The new developments in Remscheid thus underline the challenges of citizen participation in the local area and show the ambitions of the Left Party and Real.Remscheid to continue to actively participate in the design of their environment. While the preparations for the upcoming political decisions are progressing, it remains to be seen how citizens' concerns will flow into the political processes.
