Remscheid starts renovation of the green area: Finally a meeting point again!

The city of Remscheid is about to revitalize an unused park in Obere Alleestrasse. As RGA Invest in the renovation. The current state of the park, which is provided with a barrier fence, is characterized by garbage and licked the schnapps. These circumstances have led directly to the decision to significantly improve the quality of stay.

A crucial step in this project is the excavation of the soil to a depth of 40 cm. In the event of examinations, a pollution of the soil was found by benzo (a) pyrene. The pollutant could possibly be an old load from the Second World War. The removal of the contaminated excavation takes place to the landfill in Velbert, while the tender to remove the contaminated sites is already underway.

The selection of a suitable garden and landscape construction company is imminent. The measures planned after excavation are particularly aimed at creating an inviting room for different age groups. Furthermore, the laying of paths, the installation of benches as well as a picnic table group and the placement of sports and leisure equipment such as arm and city bikes as well as slacklines are planned. The park should thus serve as a meeting point for young and old, especially for lunch breaks during the working week.

protective measures and regulations

In accordance with the guidelines that are anchored in the BBODSCHV (Bundesbodenschutz- und Owlebatsverung), test values for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAK) must be observed. The test value for Benzo (a) Pyren, which is used in various types of use, is 15 mg/kg TM for parking and leisure facilities, such as Hlnug .

When renovating the Remscheider Park, this test value will play a crucial role. Deviations from the typical PAK pattern must be observed in the evaluation to ensure that the planned measures can be implemented without hesitation. These include examining the PAK pattern and the recording of the proportion of Benzo (A) Pyren on the toxicity equivalent (TEQ).

outlook for the opening and future use

The opening of the newly designed park is planned for June 2024. Regular checks are carried out in advance to check the safety and quality of the soil. After the reopening, the municipal regulatory service will also carry out regular checks to ensure that the park reaches its goal: a safe and pleasant retreat for the citizens of Remscheid.

With these comprehensive measures, the city of Remscheid is making a way that not only revitalizes the park, but also sets a sign of the well -being of the community.
