Globus closes branches in NRW: Kaufland takes over the locations!

globus has announced that several branches in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) have been closed. The locations affected are located in Wesel, Bedburg, Essen and Chemnitz. The Globus location in Wesel will be closed on January 31, 2025, while the location in Bedburg as early as January 4, 2025 closes its doors. Closets are planned for the locations in Essen and Chemnitz in mid -2025, but there are no precise data on this.

The closures are made as part of a sale of the relevant locations to Kaufland. Globus had previously taken over some branches from Real and is now forced to make these closures. The family -run company Globus, founded in St. Wendel, Saarland in 1828, operates over 50 locations in Germany (as of 2023) and offers a wide range of products. It remains unclear when the conversions for Kaufland will be completed; A possible opening is sought for the first half of 2025.

Thomas Hewer, spokesman for the Globus management, confirmed the sales plans and emphasized the suitability of Kaufland for the relevant locations.

In April 2021, Globus took over several branches of the insolvent department store chain Real, which increased the number of locations from 49 to 65.
