Erftverband is planning to restore the blocked cycle path in Euskirchen
The path between Alfred-Nobel-Straße and the Erftpark in Euskirchen has been unusable since July 2021. Flood damage has led to this closure, and the restoration of the popular bike path is now imminent. The Erftverband Plant to start the work this year, as Bernd Kuballa, department head of the city, in the transport committee.
Originally, a construction was started for August, but a start in autumn is now expected. The delay is due to the ordnance query, which has shown three suspicions for duds on Wegstrasse. These are expected to be examined in February. Before the actual start of construction, measurement work along the route that took place on Thursday is required. In addition, part of the flux must be secured.
reaction of the cycling community
The blocked section was previously particularly popular with cyclists and hikers. The cycling group "Elderens in Euskirchen" and the "Thursday cyclists" perform diversions. Both groups indicate the dangers that are connected to the detours that cyclists have to accept because the blocked section does not offer an alternative.
The path is restored with a water -bound ceiling, which means that gravel paths are used. An asphalt ceiling would have to be applied for and also built by the city.
flood protection in focus
The Situation in Euskirchen is part of a larger trend in the region in which heavy rain and flooding appear. The Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger emphasizes that the inter-communal flood protection cooperation "HWSerft" was founded two years ago, for a common concept for the technical flood protection To develop Erft-Revier.
This initiative comprises 20 members, including 16 municipalities, three circles and the Errftverband. A positive balance was presented during a press conference and a notice of approval was presented to the establishment of a flood discount. This discount will form a 140 -meter -long water channel, which only leads water into the Zülpicher Wassersportsee during flood events.
The stauf area of this flooding is 83 hectares and offers a retention volume of around 800,000 cubic meters. Five other flood retention basins are planned, including in Mechernich-Kommers and between Bad Münstereifel-Eschweiler and -Iversheim. The Erftverband works closely with the districts and the district government of Cologne to accelerate the planning and approval processes.
In addition, 40 workshops have already been carried out to integrate the citizens into the flood protection measures. Other projects in the Rhein-Erft district include flood basin in Wesseling-Keldenich and an underground rainwater canal in Brühl.
Preventive flood protection has emerged as a significant topic. Academia.edu emphasizes that these measures required the coordination with other spatial uses such as living, commercial and industry. Only through comprehensive planning can overlaps of habitats and danger areas be minimized.
