Other candidates include Susanne Chur-Lahl, Peter Smigielski and Barbara Ulbrich. At the meeting, a parity of women and men were also confirmed in the reserve list for the City of Meckenheim.

strong commitment to sustainability

Ina Löllgen, which now also stands for a promising list place in the district council, illustrated the goal of a "green, fair and sustainable Meckenheim". During the subsequent vote, the direct candidates in the 16 electoral districts received a unanimous vote. The direct candidates include Hendrik Alscher (WB 010) and Doris Neißer-Deiters (WB 020), while Löllgen for Meckenheim I and Pötzsch for Meckenheim II / Wachtberg are running.

A few days after the meeting, Löllgen was elected to 9th place in Troisdorf-Spich by the district general assembly in Troisdorf. Susanne Chur-Lahn congratulated and emphasized the importance of a strong voice from Meckenheim in the district council. These developments show the commitment of the Greens to strengthen their presence and influence in the region.

Greens in the federal political context

The Greens have developed into a fixture in the German party system in recent decades. According to bpb.de , they took the role of the third strength from the FDP in the 1990s and asserted themselves against the 2007 founded left. The home of the Greens is mainly located in urban centers, such as in Stuttgart and Bonn, where they could also provide mayors.

The Bundestag election 2021 was a milestone for the Greens: they achieved 16 direct mandates and were able to significantly expand their voter base. These successes are also reflected in the voter demographies; While most of the electorate is now over 35 years old, the young voters between the ages of 18 and 24 delivered a significant share in the votes. This shows a remarkable turn in the Greens' electorate.

The developments in Meckenheim are therefore part of a larger trend in which the Greens further expand their commitment to environmental and social policy and at the same time take into account the demographic change in their electorate. The upcoming local election will show how effectively these strategies can be implemented.
