An exciting hiking weekend: PSV Siegburg discovers Luxembourg's nature!

On May 7, 2025, the police sports club Siegburg (PSV) experienced an exciting hiking weekend in the picturesque Luxembourg Switzerland. In the idyllic village of Bollendorf, on the banks of the border river Sauer, 25 hiking friends went on a journey of discovery through the fascinating rocky landscape of the South Eifel.

The weekend started with bright sunshine. The first hike led the participants from the Hotel "Ritschlay" to the Höhhe Ritschlay. There the hikers got a view of the impressive rock formations, which, among other things, showed the remains of a bronze melting furnace. Through narrow rocky columns and past Sandsteinfelsen up to 30 meters high, the path led to the "Felsenweltwelt Südeifel", where the group reached a rest area with a view of the valley that reached the sour and found access to a former bunker complex of the "Westwalls". A remarkable climb led the hikers to the “Teufelsloch” viewpoint, where a natural stone staircase had to be climbed.

historical discoveries and culinary experiences

The hike was not only a sporting challenge, but also a historical exploration tour. The remains of an altar of the hunting goddess Diana, created about 1700 years ago, testify to the long history of the region. After the first hike, the monastery café was visited at Weilerbach Castle, which at that time opened exclusively for the PSV group. Despite initial difficulties in the service, a member of the group, Erika, helped preparing the coffee.

After a refreshment, we continued on Saturday to the second hike, which led through the heart of Luxembourg Switzerland with a distance of 12 km and 230 meters of altitude. On this stage, moderate approaches and descents as well as stony passages to be mastered that required sure-footedness. The goal was the castle ruins and the Baroque Castle Beaufort, where the hikers could enjoy a lunch in the "Hostellerie de Beaufort" inn.

conclusion in the rock labyrinth

On the last day of the weekend, a hike in the "Felsen Labyrinth" near Berdorf was on the program. The main path extended over 4 km with 60 meters of altitude, and the participants had the opportunity to explore various adventure routes. A suspension bridge of 150 meters led through an impressive gorge. For the group, this was not only a sporting activity, but also an opportunity to marvel at the miracles of nature, while she crossed the historic terrain that dates from the time of the dinosaurs.

The way back to Berdorf led back to the group in about 20 minutes, where the hiking weekend with a cozy end on the terrace of Café Martbusch was solemn. The participants were enthusiastic about the adventures experienced and the impressive nature of the area.

For everyone who is interested in similar experiences, the PSV Siegburg is planning further hikes on May 11th and June 1st. There is also an invitation to "hike" for interested parties who want to learn more about these exciting events. Further details can be found on the website of PSV Siegburg.
