Historical treasures: News from the Bergisches History Association!

On February 16, 2025, the latest edition of the scientific newspaper of the Bergisches History Association Rhein-Berg, which is entitled "Heimat between Sülz and Dhünn". This 29th edition of the specialist magazine offers readers exciting stories from the Bergisch Gladbach region, in which around a dozen authors with historical contributions are involved. Among the authors is Peter Schönfeld, who reports on the current status of the LVR culture promotion project "Bensberger Erzrevier". Particular attention is paid to the progress on the map for the Bensberg arch -area.

Another contribution comes from Peter Lückerath, who takes the focus on the Eulenburg, a historic building from 1827, and illuminates its history. He also deals with the history of the miner support association and the Grauwacke Museum in Lindlar. These topics illustrate the deeply rooted connection of the region to mining and craft.

Sibylle Friedrich, an archaeologist, is devoted to the Bergisches Museum for Mining, Craft and Trade and its almost 100 years of history in her article. This museum in the heart of Bensberg gives visitors insight into old craftsmanship and the ore mining of the former Bensberg arch -area. According to the city of Bergisch Gladbach, the events are organized by the support association of the Bergisches Museum to preserve and pass on the cultural heritage of the region.

Andreas Lücke reports on the significant renovation of the highest church tower in the Bergisches Land, St. Nikolaus. Here he emphasizes the voluntary work that contributed to the preservation of this historical landmark. This shows the commitment of the community for the preservation of local history.

Mark from the court also addresses the 50th anniversary of the incorporation of Bensberg to Bergisch Gladbach. In his article, the associated discussions about identity and community development are dealt with. The old mining in the Bergisches Land has a long tradition that until 6./7. Century v. BC goes back. In the region, numerous raw materials such as iron, lead, silver and lignite were broken down.
