Creativity and adventure: Kinderstadt Wermelskirchen starts again!
The "Kinderstadt" in Wermelskirchen opens its goals for the 17th time this year from July 14th to 26th. This special project, organized by the Office for Youth, Education and Sport, is aimed at children between the ages of 6 and 12 and takes place in the historic Kattwinkel factory. With a maximum number of 200 children, the event, which is open every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is supported by 约 45 employees to create a safe and creative environment.
To enable participation, there is early care from 8 a.m. and the registration for raffle for the places takes place between February 10th and 14th. The public raffle will be carried out on February 17 at 3 p.m. in the Kattwinkel factory. 180 places are raffled off, while 10 places for life aid and another 10 places for emergencies are reserved. The winners of the lot process must register bindingly between 24 and 28 February. The participation fee amounts to 130 euros without early care and 150 euros with early care, with reduced prices for owners of a city pass and financial support for bottlenecks.
an inclusion project for the whole family
The children's city is much more than just a leisure offer; It is an inclusion project of the Kattfabrik Children's and Youth Center and the Lebenshilfe Service Bergisches Land gGmbH. With around 20 play and work areas such as carpentry, music studio and dance school, the event promotes creativity and personal responsibility. Children are given the opportunity to work in different areas, including metal processing and a travel agency that organizes excursions to regional attractions. In addition, the children are given the opportunity to choose a mayor who run the business together with the city council.
An important aspect of the children's city is the practical experience with children's rights. During their time in the city, children deserve wages from which taxes are deducted and can choose whether they want to withdraw their money in cash or deposit them to an account. This gives the Youngstern important financial skills and responsibilities in a protected environment.
diverse leisure activities and cooperations
In addition to the work areas, a diverse range of leisure activities ensures variety. The children's cinema, a bistro and a play and leisure park are available to the participants. The children's city is supported by local companies and sponsors such as Lebenshilfe Bergisch Land, the fire brigade and the Musikschule Wermelskirchen, which contribute to the quality of the educational offer.
The last two weeks of the summer vacation are all about the children's city, which was nominated by the WDR for the 2024 Children's Rights Prize and was awarded the Kurt Kreuser prize in 2017. A final party on July 26, in which the children present their results, rounds off the experience and enables an insight into the creative achievements of the young participants.

The children's city of Wermelskirchen is a shining example of how inclusion and creative development can go hand in hand, and not only offers children fun, but also valuable life skills.
