Illegal fireworks: five dead and shocking details from Saxony!

During New Year's Eve, there were serious accidents with fireworks nationwide, in which five men were killed. The public prosecutor's office is currently examining whether a fireworks used in Geseke was illegal pyrotechnics. This was expressed by the police spokeswoman, who noted that the fireworks used did not look like commercially available fireworks.

In detail there were two deaths in Saxony and one in Brandenburg and Hamburg. Commercial fireworks usually show a limited explosion that aims to avoid fatal accidents. Nevertheless, there are often serious injuries from firecrackers, which have a higher black powder share than regular fireworks. It remains unclear whether the deaths are connected to the use of illegal firecrackers on New Year's Eve.

criminal aspects of illegal fireworks

The handling of illegal fireworks is strictly regulated in Germany. According to information from Anwalt.de, illegal fireworks are those that are manufactured or distributed without admission by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM). These are often obtained from abroad, especially from Eastern European countries.

The import of non -approved fireworks violates the explosive law (Sprengg). The order abroad, also on the Internet, is a criminal act. The consequences for possessing, ordering or importing illegal fireworks can result in fines or imprisonment of up to three years. In particularly severe cases, for example in the event of endangering people, the sentence can be higher.

In addition, the mere possession of illegal fireworks is punishable, regardless of their application. Security risks assume these products because they can explode uncontrollably and cause serious injuries and damage to property. In addition, insurance generally does not make any damage caused by the handling of illegal fireworks. It is therefore advised to use exclusively approved fireworks and to adhere to the legal provisions.
