Violent thunderstorm warning for Germany: storms and heavy rain threaten!

On Saturday afternoon, May 3, 2025, there were severe thunderstorms in the middle and south of Germany. This weather development was forecast by the German Weather Service (DWD) and led to considerable weather warnings that should also apply to the night of Sunday, May 4th. Strong thunderstorms and heavy rain were classified as particularly questionable, with the predictions of intensive rainfall and storm fronts reported.

The weather conditions are presented due to an air mass border that shifted from the middle to the south of the country. This border will reach the Alps on Sunday. Cool air polar origin flows from northwest to Germany. These meteorological conditions create a breeding ground for the tremendous storm fronts.

storm warnings and expected weather conditions

The night of Sunday can be expected over the eastern center and strong thunderstorms in southern Germany. According to the current forecasts, there can be heavy rain of up to 20 liters per square meter in a short time as well as storm gusts with speeds up to 85 km/h. Added to this is the risk of small -grained hail. In some regions there are even storm -like thunderstorms with violent heavy rain of up to 30 liters per square meter and hail with grain sizes of up to 3 cm as well as heavy gusts of wind up to 100 km/h.

In addition, the DWD will indicate that heavy rain between 20 and 30 liters per square meter will be possible in the Oberallgäu in a few hours. On Sunday itself, the thunderstorms in the far south and in the Alps are still active, while the rest of the country has to count on a few thunderstorms and gusts up to 60 km/h.

wind warnings and general security measures

The warnings are not only limited to the thunderstorms; Wind warnings have also been given. On the North Sea, stiff to stormy gusts up to 70 km/h from the northwest are expected on the North Sea. Storm gusts of about 80 km/h are sometimes possible in the high -rays of the Black Forest and the Alps. This weather situation leads to an increased danger to the population and, if necessary, requires quick reactions and measures.

The DWD has launched the natural hazard portal to better support the population and institutions in such critical layers. This portal enables citizens to pursue current warnings and to find out about risk information and prevention measures. Users can select specific places to obtain tailor -made information that is essential for personal security.

The natural hazard portal not only brings together information on current dangers, but also offers long -term solutions to prepare for extreme weather events, including interactive cards for risk assessment. Due to the help of various federal and state authorities, the information offer always remains up-to-date and reliable.

The next update of the weather warnings will take place at the latest on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 5:00 a.m. in order to continuously inform the population and recommend precautions.
