Process in Düsseldorf: fraudulent healing promises to cancer patients!

Five defendants must answer in front of the Düsseldorf district court on Friday, May 10, 2025. They are blamed with serious allegations that include violations of the alternative practitioner law, dangerous bodily harm and fraud. In a tragic history, four men, aged 50 to 64, and a 67-year-old woman are charged. The group is said to have decreased 95,000 euros for completely ineffective treatment to a 32-year-old, incurable sick cancer patient.

The patient suffered from an advanced bone cancer and has already been explained by conventional medicine. In search of hope, he turned to the accused, who promised him "very good chances of recovery" and an alleged "80 percent success rate". The main accused, a 50-year-old man from Cologne, promised him successful therapy.

treatment and tragic end

In March 2019, the cancer patient received an injection that was referred to as "personalized immune therapy". He was also given light therapy. Unfortunately, there was no improvement in the state of health. The patient died only three days after the treatment. In a remarkable step, the 64-year-old main defendant of the deceased family then returned 19,000 euros. This raises questions about the motifs and the actual scope of action of the accused.

The start of the trial is already the fourth attempt in this case. None of the accused was able to prove a qualification as a doctor or alternative practitioner, which further increases the severity of the allegations. The accusation of fraud is particularly serious in this context, since it is based on the deliberate deception about medical provision and the acquisition of unauthorized financial advantages.

A look at billing fraud in healthcare

The above allows fond of a major problem of billing fraud in the healthcare system, a topic that affects not only doctors, but also pharmacists and nursing services. Billing fraud is defined as a conscious deception about services provided in order to obtain unauthorized payments from payers. The most common forms include the billing of unusual services, incorrect coding of diagnoses, as well as double accounts.

criminal law is pursued in accordance with Section 263 of the Criminal Code, whereby the consequences for the accused can be significant. Depending on the severity of the fraud, fines or imprisonment of up to ten years are possible, especially if the sick and their relatives are damaged by such machinations.

The legal and personal consequences of such fraud cases are far -reaching and tragic because they undermine trust in the healthcare system and endanger the life of vulnerable persons.
