Raid in Gernsheim: two drivers arrested under drugs and alcohol!

On May 9, 2025, the Gernsheim police station, in cooperation with the main customs office in Frankfurt and the administrative authority district, carried out comprehensive traffic control on the state road 3112 near the A 67. This measure aimed to increase traffic safety and to punish violations of applicable laws. A total of 41 vehicles and 82 people were checked, which led to two arrests.

The first arrest took place at 5:15 p.m. A 31-year-old driver was stopped with a breath alcohol test of 3.14 per thousand. The consequences of this arrest were the preliminary arrest and a blood sample. Criminal proceedings for drunkenness were initiated against the man. The second arrest took place at 7:15 p.m. This was a 32-year-old driver who was under the influence of cannabis.

additional violations and controls

The control campaign also revealed various violations that were found by customs. In particular, tax violations of tobacco and fuel were found. In addition, violations of the load securing and the dangerous goods regulation were punished. The authorities also checked three restaurants, with six slot machines being sealed. This led to the initiation of procedures for violations of the game regulation.

The importance of such controls is also evident in the context of the current traffic safety situation. Traffic accidents under the influence of alcohol or drugs are one of the main causes of the accident. In 2020 alone, there were 4,463 accidents in Bavaria that were due to alcohol influence, as well as 560 accidents under drug influence. The number of unreported cases on journeys under the influence of alcohol or drugs without damage is high. This illustrates the need for clarification and prevention.

commitment of the traffic watches

In order to counteract the problem, Bavarian traffic watchdogs have been involved in clarifying the risks for years. The "East Bavarian Road Safety Action", which was launched in 1985, has the goal of reducing the number of traffic accidents with drivers influenced by alcohol, especially in young people between the ages of 18 and 25. Cooperation with institutions such as the ADAC, TÜV Süd and B.A.D.S. support these initiatives.

In addition, distractions in road traffic are increasingly important. It is estimated that distraction plays a role in every fourth serious accident. In order to further increase traffic safety, traffic watchdogs also offer experience -oriented events and lectures on the topics of "alcohol", "drugs" and "distraction". Such measures are important to raise awareness of the dangers in road traffic.

The results of the control on May 9 illustrate how crucial such measures are for public security. The police will continue to carry out similar controls in the future to ensure traffic safety and to consistently punish violations.
