Ten injuries and numerous accidents: police warn of traffic dangers!
On May 11, 2025, several traffic accidents occurred in Neuwied, which draw an alarming picture of current traffic safety in the region. In the reporting period, a total of twelve traffic accidents were recorded with property damage, whereby in five cases the polluters left the scene of the accident. Thanks to witness references, three of the causers of the accident were determined, which indicates the importance of cooperation between citizens and the police.
A particularly remarkable incident occurred in Graf-Friedrich-Platz, where a stranger caused a parked Ford Fiesta between May 9, 2025, 10:00 p.m. and 10.05.2025, 07:45. Another parking damage affected an Opel Astra, which was damaged on May 10, 2025 between 6:00 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. in the Neuwied industrial area. The driver of the Mercedes, a 55-year-old man, suffered minor injuries.
In addition to these events, a 29-year-old man in the pedestrian zone had to be involved in an incident in which he collided with a 4-year-old child. The child suffered slight head and face injuries. The traffic accident balance 2024 of the Neuwied police department shows that a total of 9,626 traffic accidents were registered in the districts of Neuwied and Altenkirchen, which corresponds to a decline by 1.1% compared to the previous year. The main cause of the accident remains inadequate safety distance, responsible for 37% of all accidents. At the same time, it was found that diversion accidents decreased by 9.7%, but 162 accidents were registered under alcohol influence. In the meantime, there is a concern of accidents under drug influence by 78.8%.
These figures illustrate the need for persistent traffic safety work by the police, which focuses in particular on endangered risk groups. The data and statistics obtained are essential to develop targeted measures to improve traffic safety and increase the pressure on transport policy in order to check and implement further measures.
