Students plant trees for a climate -stable city forest in Kaiserslautern

fifth and sixth graders of the Kurpfalz Realschule in Kaiserslautern carried out an important planting campaign on the city forest near the school center south. Under the technical management of Jan Christoffel, who works in the city's green spaces, the pupils implemented their commitment to the environment on Wednesday and Thursday. The planting site is less than a kilometer from school, which made it easier for young helpers to travel.

teacher Anja Thomas, who initiated the campaign, reported on the positive experiences of the previous year and was pleased with the new participation of the students. This year, new, lighter and biodegradable protective covers were used that weathered within ten years. This focus on environmentally friendly materials supports the great goal of the action: the creation of a climate -stable deciduous forest.

sustainability and environmental protection

The trees donated by the German Forest Protection Association play a central role in the initiative. They have not planted any conifers, but different deciduous trees, including oaks and chestnuts. Jan Chrioffel said that the spruces have decreased sharply in recent years due to climate change, which is why a deciduous forest is being sought. The students worked in groups from five to six, with each group planting 20 trees per clump.

To support the students during the campaign, teachers were also actively involved. After completing the planting work, the students returned to school at 1 p.m. Anja Thomas emphasized that the children not only learned a lot, but also had fun during the activity, which made the sense of achievement all the greater.

The planting campaign is part of a more extensive commitment of the city of Kaiserslautern, which aims to raise awareness of environmental issues and to promote biodiversity in urban areas. Such projects are not only important for the climate, but also for the early sensitization of the young population for sustainable practices.

Regular events and actions of this kind could help form a generation that actively works for environmental protection and develops sustainable awareness. In this context, there are many questions: How can further projects be implemented? Which resources are available? And how can each individual make a contribution to preserve the earth for future generations?
