Thunderstorm chaos in Rheinhessen: Fire brigade in continuous use!

on May 3, 2025, around 5:30 p.m., the residents of Mainz and the adjacent counties were surprised by a heavy thunderstorm. This weather event led to a variety of operations for the local fire brigades and emergency services. Thanks to early warnings from apps and media, many potential dangers could be recognized in good time. To deal with the situation, the control center mobilized additional service -free forces to coordinate the operations more efficiently.

A total of 26 areas of operation in Rheinhessen were counted. These include four in the Mainz urban area, 19 in the Mainz-Bingen district and three in the Alzey-Worms district. Among other things, the main missions included a lightning strike that set fire to a shed in Gau-Algesheim, and the fire of a garden hut in Alzey. In Schwabenheim, emergency services were busy securing cover parts that were solved by the heavy rain.

missions and effects of the thunderstorm

fallen trees in Gau-Algesheim and Bad Kreuznach significantly influenced rail traffic. In addition, the emergency services had to work on numerous other cases of fallen branches, fallen trees, water entry into buildings and water accumulation in road sinks. Fortunately, despite the large number of missions, there were no personal injury in connection with the thunderstorm.

parallel to the missions due to the thunderstorm, there was a fire in the region at the Eppelsheim train station, which was reported on Monday afternoon, May 3, around 12:15 p.m. The fire brigades from Eppelsheim, Alzey-Land-Süd and the military management of the Alzey-Land community were alerted. Military director Uwe König found a strong smoke development on the way and also added the fire brigade of the city of Alzey.

The Eppelsheim train station, which is uninhabited and somewhat from the town center, was thoroughly checked for possible people by the emergency services. The flames had spread mainly in the left part of the roof area. While the head of the operations describes the location as dynamic, there is no information about the cause of the fire, nor does no information to be violated. Around 50 emergency services of the fire brigades as well as the police and emergency services were in use.

These events illustrate the challenge that the rescue workers in Rheinhessen look at, especially in extreme weather conditions. The importance of early information and active media reporting is again underlined by such incidents in order to protect the population in the best possible way.
