New roundabout in Alzey-Schafhausen: Traffic transition for the region!
The new roundabout at Alzey-Schafhausen has finally been completed after a construction period of five months. As Antenne KH , the route is released again for traffic from today. Nevertheless, the remaining work on the road to Schafhausen has not yet been completed, and it can be expected that the last measures will be implemented in the coming weeks. This work could take up to two months and are expected to bring some restrictions on bus lines.
Mayor Steffen Jung praised the construction progress as a considerable performance. The new roundabout, which has caused a total cost of around 940,000 euros, is to relieve traffic on Karl-Heinz-Kipp-Straße and at the same time improve the connection to the industrial area. In addition to the traffic aspects, an amphibian tunnel and a bat fence were also installed in the course of the construction work, which takes into account nature conservation.
full closure of the L406
In order to implement this new roundabout, a full closure of the state road L 406 at Alzey was required. This started on Monday, September 23, 2024, and will probably take six months, as the city of Alzey explains on its website. The blocking concerns the area between the roundabout on the B 271 and the confluence of the L 406 to the Gau-Odernheimer Straße near Alzey-Schafhausen.
The diversion is signposted and leads from Framersheim via the L 406 towards Gau-Odernheim, further via the L 408, Biebelnheim, A 63 and A 61. For road users who drive from Alzey towards Gau-Odernheim, reversed detours apply. During this phase, the implementation of the work is made more difficult due to ongoing traffic, which made the full closure inevitable.
challenge sustainability in road construction
As part of the construction work, the current discussion about sustainability in road construction is also taken into account. The need to use more environmentally friendly building materials and procedures has increased in recent years. According to nbau Overall measures are being discussed intensively to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption in road construction. The focus is on the use of reusable materials, such as asphalt with a high reusing rate of about 85%
In addition, a concept for the development of long -lasting street fortifications, also known as the "Eternity Street", is continued in order to minimize the sustainable footprint of road construction. These approaches aim to make not only the new building, but also the renewal of existing roads more environmentally friendly, which corresponds to the holistic objective of sustainability in road construction.
The combination of modern traffic management through the new roundabout and the focus on sustainability shows how traffic projects can not only be designed efficiently but also environmentally conscious.
