In 2024, around 9,600 people were looking for asylum in Rhineland-Palatinate. This represents a decline of almost 5,300 people compared to 2023. In addition, 409 people came to Rhineland-Palatinate via special recording programs. The main origin countries of the asylum seekers were Syria, Türkiye, Afghanistan, Egypt and Somalia. People who fled to Ukraine before the Russian attack war are not included in these numbers. The number of refugees Ukrainians rose by more than 1,000 to 11,175 in 2024. In total, more than 53,000 Ukrainians live in Rhineland-Palatinate. Integration Minister Katharina Binz described the number of asylum seekers as still high despite the decline. The number of asylum seekers in Rhineland-Palatinate declined in 2023, while the number of asylum for asylum was increasing. By the end of 2024, 5,100 lawsuit and urgent procedures regarding asylum are expected. The increase in complaints is almost 25 percent compared to the previous year. The reasons for this are the decision -making practice of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) and a settlement backlog. The decline in the number of asylum leaders led to fewer recordings and hearings in the BAMF, which in turn resulted in the increase in proceedings in court. The inventory of lawsuits at the end of 2023 will be estimated at around 2,290 (at the end of 2022: 1.455). The winner of the pace of completion is the Trier Administrative Court, which has the fastest pace nationwide. The average duration of a main procedure was 3.9 months, in 2024 it was estimated at 5.2 months, while the nationwide average was around 17 months, such as The Rheinpfalz reported .
