Chaos on the railway line: commuters suffer from train failures!
The current situation on the railway line between Bad Dürkheim and Deidesheim remains tense, since the route has been closed since March 17th due to massive damage in the railway embankment. These damage was caused by graving activities of badger buildings, such as the German Train reported. The result is a replacement rail traffic (SEV), which, however, is heavily criticized in its current form. Complaints from those affected reach the district administration in Bad Dürkheim, which forwards them to the Zweckverband Schiensperseutenahnahn (ZöPNV).
ZöPNV has now tried to adapt the replacement timetables, train drivers and also change line paths to defuse the situation. Nevertheless, the situation is perceived as unsatisfactory, especially by commuters and students of the affected municipalities of Freinsheim and Erpolzheim. District Administrator Hans-Ulrich Ihlenfeld (CDU) has expressed a lack of understanding of the resulting loads in areas not directly affected, while the railway must continue to restrict train traffic between Freinsheim and Bad Dürkheim due to operational reasons.
rail replacement and challenges
ihlenfeld questions whether the organizational effort for the SEV is not higher every half hour than that for regular train traffic. A meeting of the ZöPNV association meeting will deal with this topic on Thursday. Ihlenfeld expresses the hope of solutions to relieve and improve the situation for passengers.
Deutsche Bahn had already implemented renovation measures to stabilize the dams in 2022 and 2024 to ensure reliable traffic. However, the increased graving activities of the badgse made an early route closure necessary, since the repair area now had to be expanded to a total of 2.5 kilometers. The railway is in close contact with the responsible authorities in order to receive the necessary environmental approvals at short notice.
A look at rail traffic
In the context of the current challenges on the railway line between Bad Dürkheim and Deidesheim, a look at the general situation of rail transport shows that this experiences a positive development in Europe. In 2023 EU-wide, 429 billion person kilometers (PKM) was covered, the highest value since data acquisition began in 2004, such as destatis . These developments are particularly gratifying because the passenger numbers in almost all EU countries increase compared to the previous year.
The situation remains challenging for the rail travelers in the region, and the hope of rapid improvements is great. Deutsche Bahn apologizes to the passengers for the inconvenience and promises to continue working on solutions.
