K16 expansion becomes more expensive: costs increase to 3.5 million euros!

The planned expansion of the K16 from the Kurpfalz park to the entrance to Wachenheim is significantly more expensive than originally estimated. The amount planned for the measure increases from 2.5 million euros to 3.5 million euros. This means an increase in costs by one million euros, which the district of Bad Dürkheim has to do. The district's own contribution amounts to around 910,000 euros, while the remaining costs are covered by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. According to Rheinpfalz , the final accounts have already been released from the district administration.

The cost increases are to be classified as normal in the context of the current economic situation. The construction work has been announced for the period from November 2023 to August 2024. In this phase, not only the financial but also the structural aspects of road construction should be put into focus in order to ensure traffic safety in the long term.

detailed measures on the expansion

Petra Dick-Walther, State Secretary of Economic Affairs of Rhineland-Palatinate, recently handed over a funding notice of around 1.5 million euros for the expansion of the K16 between the Rotsteig and Wachenheim. This funding covers 74% of the total costs that amount to around 2.1 million euros. The necessity of this work results from damage to the embankments, lane the edges of the road, and deep cracks and patchbones that urgently need to be remedied. This can be found from information from Kreis-badduerkheim.de

The work on a section of the street around six kilometers long is planned in the high -installation process. This method is particularly inexpensive. The existing cover layer is milled away to raise a new layer of support and cover that reinforces the road. In addition, the embankments are to be stabilized along the route and the road edges are being rebuilt. The banquets and drainage facilities are also adapted to the higher structure. In the context of these measures, the goal is to keep the Kurpfalzpark in Wachenheim on one side during the work.

Currently there are already discussions on the preparation for construction, with concrete appointments for the start of construction and the end of the construction have not yet been known. The coming months will be decisive to successfully master the upcoming challenges within the framework of the K16 expansion and to improve the traffic situation in the region.
