cultural participation through music

Special attention is paid to the musical integration of people in less accessible places. A current concert took place in the Maria Hilf geriatric home, which not only offered the audience musical highlights, but also created an atmosphere of exhilaration and thoughtfulness. Four cellists - Fionn Bockemühl, Wolfgang Düthorn, Alexandru Richtberg and Panu Sundqvist - contributed to this, while Wolfram Lamparter led the program as a moderator. Maria Hilf emphasizes that the audience comprises an impressive age of 9 to 9999 years, which the universal language of music illustrated.

In addition, various nationalities were represented in the audience in the elderly nursing home. Lamparter thanked the nursing staff for the organization of the event, and Mr. Loewenberg presented the musicians a bread mix of the Hegne monastery as a thank you. This exchange between the musicians and the audience shows the essential goal of the project: to use music as a connection to achieve people and increase quality of life.

music and dementia

The topic of musical participation also has a deeper dimensional meaning, especially with regard to people with dementia. According to the Federal Initiative "Music and Dementia", participation in cultural life is a human right, as is specified in Article 27 of the General Declaration of Human Rights. Music therapy and music -generating offers can help people with dementia and their relatives to enable participation in cultural life and to improve their quality of life.

The need for such offers is great, and it is crucial that further measures are taken to promote cultural participation both preventively and therapeutically. Events such as those of the SWR Symphony Orchestra are steps in the right direction and prove the power of music to combine people across age and health borders.
