Who will be represented in the Bundestag? Exciting candidates compete!

On February 22, 2025, an important panel discussion will meet in the casino company Idar, in which the central questions about the upcoming Bundestag election in the constituency 200 Bad Kreuznach and Birkenfeld are raised. The participants, including Julia Klöckner (CDU) and Joe Weingarten (SPD), discuss who will be represented in the Bundestag during the next legislative period. In view of the latest developments, it is expected that it is unlikely that three MPs from this constituency will result again. Next Sunday, around 190,000 eligible voters will have the opportunity to give up their votes and thus influence the political landscape in the region.

In the last federal election in September 2021, Joe Weingarten surprisingly won against the then Federal Minister Julia Klöckner, who received 29.1 percent. Weingarten prevailed against Klöckner at the time and is now starting again to possibly reach his third term in the Bundestag. Klöckner, on the other hand, has a successful career because she was able to win the constituency in 2005 and 2009.

competition for the direct mandate

In total, nine candidates apply for the direct mandate in the constituency. In addition to Weingarten and Klöckner, the AfD is represented by Nicole Höchst, who has been in the Bundestag since 2017 and wants to work for an extension of your mandate. In the last election, Höchst, as the third strongest force in the constituency, achieved a respectable result. Their goals include the expansion of the B41 and the ensuring affordable energy prices.

Regine Kircher-Zumbrink runs for the Greens, while Jürgen Locher represents the left. Patrick Bruns competes for the FDP and is a new politician who works as a wealth manager. Christian Alexander Schöpfer from the Free Voters, Kerstin Mikolajewski by Volt and Bianca Daniela Steimle from the new movement Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht round off the field of applicants. The cut of the constituency remained unchanged compared to the last election, but now he wears number 200.

political dynamics and reforms

The upcoming Bundestag election on February 23, 2025 is not only of great importance for the candidates, but could also be influenced by current political developments. A voting right reform has led to the constitutional winner no longer automatically moving into the Bundestag. The distribution of seats in the Bundestag is now based on the second votes, which also complicated the starting point for all candidates.

The region around Bad Kreuznach, which is known for its viticulture, tourism and the numerous medieval cities, attracts numerous tourists and visitors every year. These cultural and landscape conditions form the framework for the election campaign and the discussions about the future representation of the region in the Bundestag. Joe Weingarten confirms his support for Defense Minister Boris Pistorius as a candidate for chancellor, while Klöckner is striving for a clear electorate for the CDU and criticizes the traffic light government.

With intensive political discussions in the coming days and the voices of the citizens who will be given on Sunday, the constituency 200 will observe which direction will take the political representation of the region and whether Joe Weingarten or Julia Klöckner will ultimately be ahead.
