Zweibrücken starts a fundraising campaign against a shortage of doctors in the West Palatinate!
In Zweibrücken, a significant call is started to support young people to give access to medical studies. This initiative has the goal of counteracting the shortage of doctors in the rural region of West Palatinate and in the Bad Kreuznach district. The association "Doctors for the West Palatinate e. V.", founded in 2023 by the city of Zweibrücken and the Southwest Palatinate district, is the focus of this upcoming fundraising. Rainer Guth, District Administrator of the Donnersberg district and chairman of the association, calls the public for financial support in order to finance medical grants and thus secure the medical youngsters.
As part of this initiative, medical scholarships are offered for studying in Hungary. The scholarship holders undertake to work in the region after completing their studies. A full scholarship costs 15,000 euros per year, which leads to total costs of 90,000 euros over the entire duration of a six -year degree. The scholarship holders must complete clinical internships and the practical year in the funding area and work there for a period of 3 to 5 years after studying. The association has already started cooperation with the University of Pécs and the Semmelweis University in Hungary to ensure high-quality training, while the next round of application is already running for the third year.
The need for action in the face of the doctor's shortage
The Situation in the healthcare system of the West Palatinate is tense. The upcoming retirement of many doctors tightens the existing shortage of doctors. The statistics show that 20 % of general practitioners in the region are between 55 and 59 years old, 38 % between 60 and 69 and 14 % over 70 years old. In view of these figures, the need for action is enormous. Due to the limited study places in Germany, many interested parties therefore go out to private universities or abroad to realize their dream of studying medicine.
Moritz Krauss, a scholarship holder of the "Doctors for the West Palatinate" initiative, is an example of the success of this strategy. He has been studying at the University of Pécs in Hungary for a year and himself had an average Abitur average of 3.3. Krauss, inspired by his time as a paramedic, plans to spend the next five years in Pécs and then work as a doctor in the region. His sub -scholarship covers half of the tuition fees and obliges him to work in the West Palatinate for three years.
high training standards in Hungary
The requirements for students at the University of Pécs are high and the level of training meets the standards in Germany. Professor Burghard Schumacher, trainer and examiner in Pécs, emphasizes that the quality of medical training is comparable and thus offers the scholarship holders a well -founded basis for their professional future. Krauss has already passed exams and settled in well in his new surroundings. Nevertheless, he regularly visits family and friends during the long weekends and semester break.
The initiative and the associated fundraiser stand in this context for an important step to ensure the long -term medical care in the West Palatinate. Supporters, including savings banks, city administrations and private individuals, can actively participate in this initiative. Information on the fundraising campaign and the scholarships are available on the website of the association. Donation certificates are of course issued to make the financial support more transparent. These measures should effectively counter the impending lack of doctors.
