Downtown save: Experts demand creative solutions for more attractiveness!

In the current debate about the revival of German city centers, the "Downtown Impulse" funding program plays a central role. Daniel Schnödt, an experienced consultant at the age of 35, is instrumental in this initiative and focuses on the upgrading and revitalization of cities such as Bernkastel-Kues. Schnödt carried out comprehensive analyzes of shop windows, entrance areas and sales rooms in various shops in the city, including Hut Hansen, and pointed out the importance of atmosphere and goods presentation. His goal is to increase the quality and sales of the affected companies through targeted recommendations. It is worth noting that there are still capacities for free store checks that interested business owners can use to optimize their conceptualization. Interested parties can contact the city's development agency at r.schmidt@bernkastel.de.

The “Downtown Impulse” program is part of a wider strategy to support city centers. The Stadt impulses initiative, which has emerged as a pragmatic actor in the revitalization of inner cities, relies on practical and quick measures to create an inviting atmosphere. Roads are staged by colors and shapes to emphasize the character and attractiveness of the city center. Emotionality and conviviality are decisive factors that enrich city life.

challenges for German city centers

These measures are particularly urgent because the central real estate committee (ZIA) indicates significant challenges. Around 90 % of the inner city industry suffered significant sales losses due to the corona pandemic. Around 120,000 shops in Germany are at risk. Andreas Mattner, President of the ZIA, urgently demands strengthening the attraction of the inner cities and the rapid implementation of effective measures. The city center's advisory board was founded to actively promote these strategic considerations.

The reserved domestic tourism level, which dropped by 40 % in 2020, reinforced the need for such strategies. The ZIA plans a position paper to develop ideas for sustainable inner cities, especially with regard to resilience against extreme weather conditions. Under the impression of events such as the flood disaster in Germany, an adaptation of the real estate structure is required to change climatic conditions.

The combination of these efforts shows that a coordinated approach is necessary to overcome the diverse challenges that the inner cities are facing today. There is a clear need for action between support for local transactions through programs such as "downtown impulses" and the need to find long -term solutions.
