Organ rescuer Moritz Jäger: A musical miracle in the Hunsrück!

Moritz Jäger, a committed prospective church musician from Heidenburg in the Hunsrück, started an impressive project: he built an organ in his parents' barn. This special organ comes from the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Art and counts 2,500 whistles. Moritz acquired the organ for just a symbolic price of one euro to save her in front of the scrap site, where she found little interest in 2023, except for scrap dealers.

The dismantling of the organ was an elaborate undertaking that dragged on for two months. During this time, Moritz and his girlfriend carefully documented the tens of thousands of individual parts. However, the subsequent transport to the Hunsrück went smoothly. Moritz 'father, Andreas Jäger, played an important role in the conversion of the barn to make room for this impressive instrument.

a lengthy structure

The structure of the organ ran over impressive 377 days. A few days ago, the first tones could be played successfully, although a large part of the whistles still have to be voted. Moritz states that the completion of the project will take a few more months. He plans to use the organ not only for personal purposes, but also for public concerts to modernize the image of the instrument. He informs organ friends worldwide about the progress of his ambitious project via social media.

In addition, Moritz is preparing for his final concert in summer, which he can easily practice from home. Such events could serve to bring the fascination for the organ music closer to a broader public.

hiking concert in Thalfang

The concert is organized by the Dorfleben Thalfang interest group and admission is free, but donations are requested. After the concert, a small drink is planned at the Evangelical Church, which offers a nice opportunity to celebrate music and community.

a way to church music

Moritz Jäger is a student in the Bachelor's degree in church music at the University of Music and Performing Art Stuttgart. This course extends over eight semesters and is divided into two phases. In the basic course, he deepens his knowledge of main artistic subjects such as organ, organ improvisation and conducting. Other subjects that he studies include singing, piano, music theory and musicology. In the main course, the focus is on a further deepening of artistic skills as well as reflection subjects and ensemble practice.

Moritz 'commitment, both in his studies and in his organ project, shows a remarkable combination of passion and craftsmanship. It is well on the way to preserve the tradition and inheritance of church music and at the same time to take new ways.
