Winter café on the Moselle: enjoyable tea-time awaits guests!
On January 11, 2025, the Erbes-Henn winery opens the doors of its winter café in the picturesque Überzig on the Moselle. Visitors can enjoy the cozy atmosphere in the lovingly furnished room on weekends, Saturdays and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Located directly on the banks of the Moselle, the café promises a little break in the middle of the impressive wine landscape.
A special highlight of the winter café are the homemade specialties that are presented in an inviting environment. The selection includes fresh cakes and tarts, such as the popular cheesecake with red groats, Riesling-Curd and Care Pale, as well as the delicious chocolate types with Salzkaramell. The offer is supplemented by aromatic coffee specialties and exquisite teas that have something ready for every taste.
unique tea-time
A special attraction is the classic English tea time, which is served with oven-warm scones, clotted cream, homemade jam and fine sandwiches. This is either accompanied by an aromatic tea or sparkling secco from its own production. This makes a visit to the winter café a small, culinary experience that puts the guests in another time.
The Erbes-Henn family deeply rooted in viticulture. Her family coat of arms, which has been connected to the winery for many years, was brought into the winery by Dorothea Henn. This coat of arms can be found in different places along the Moselle, including Josephshof and the entrance to the Trier monastery St. Matthias. Historically, the origins of the family are traced back to 1482, which symbolizes the long tradition and connection to the region.
The wineries Erbes-Henn in Ürzig and Henn-Schwaab in Kinheim carry the old family coat of arms, which represents three hens and three acorns. These symbols refer to the family names and the origin from the forested region of the Hohen Venn.
viticulture on the Moselle
The region around the Moselle is known for its quality winegrowing, which was funded in the 18th century under the last Elector of Trier, Archbishop Clemens Wenzeslaus von Saxony. Heady vines were felled, and better varieties, especially the Riesling, found their way to the vineyards. Today around 5,330 of the approximately 8,500 hectares of vineyard space with Riesling are planted, which impressively illustrates the importance of this grape variety for the region.
After the French Revolution, which ended the monastic viticulture, the region experienced an early form of wine tourism, which was attracted to the beauty of the landscape and the delicious wines. Famous personalities such as the romantic painter William Turner and poet like Johann Wolfgang von Goethe contributed to the awareness and charm of the Moselle region, which is still an attractive goal for wine lovers and tourists.
The winter café in Ürzig is not just a place to enjoy the delicious wines and specialties of the region, but also offers an insight into the rich history and culture that is deeply connected to viticulture. This becomes an unforgettable experience for all guests.
