Family vacation for low earners: NRW extended popular program!

The Ministry of Children, Youth, Family, Equality, Equality and Integration has extended the promotion of the “Family Zeit NRW” program. This support is aimed at families from North Rhine-Westphalia with low incomes that cannot afford a vacation. The initiative, which has existed since 2021, is very popular, as well as Diakonie-Reisedienst , families can pay a share of 50 euros per adult and 25 euros per child for stays in family ferry sites. The travel is organized by the Diakonie Ruhr-Hellweg travel service, which supports families in the application and convey them to suitable facilities.

For the application, families must submit an application via the online portal Familien.web. Only one application can be made per family and participation is possible every two years. Families who took part in 2024 are not eligible to apply in 2025. During the Easter holidays, the application can be made from February 6th to 29th, 2025, the family ferry service facilities are booked after successful application test.

Various offers in family ferienstellies

The program offers more than just a simple vacation. Families are given the opportunity to experience recovery times that not only promote the distance from everyday life, but also strengthen cohesion. A total of around 80 family ferry sites are available nationwide, which offer a variety of accommodations in different landscapes, including the sea and in the mountains. Many of these institutions are also designed for the needs of people with disabilities or people in need of care, such as the Federal Family Ministry emphasized.

The family ferry sites organize pedagogically accompanied leisure activities and offer childcare and various activities. In the high season, the facilities usually do without price increases, which also helps to keep the recovery affordable for families. There is also the possibility to use grants or discounted prices depending on income and regional funding programs.
