Blood donations in Speyer: 147 save lives - this is how you can help!

On Monday morning, January 23, 2025, a blood donation campaign took place in the parking lot of the Sankt Vincentius Hospital in Speyer, which was organized by the school for nursing professions. Around 49 blood donors, including 16 first -time donors, took part in the campaign, which ended with an impressive result of almost 24 liters collected blood. Ramona Schödler, health and nursing staff and nursing teacher, was largely responsible for the implementation of the event, which should also serve as positive role models to strengthen the trainees.

Special commitment also showed the trainees who sold freshly baked waffles and also collected 130 euros for the Stefan Morsch Foundation. This foundation is actively committed to the fight against blood cancer and has been working in a cooperation with the DRK blood donation service West since autumn last year to gain both blood and stem cell donors. The initiative could have the potential to save up to 147 human lives, which underlines the importance of such actions.

blood donation and their meaning

Around 15,000 blood donations are needed in Germany every day, and demographic changes in society lead to an increasing need for blood and stem cell donations. During the blood donation campaign in Speyer, the broad solidarity was also shown in the community, including the administrative director Phillip Nowak and other employees of the hospital.

The next way to donate blood will be offered on February 24, 2025 from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Speyer Stadthalle. Interested blood donors should be at least 18 years old and healthy. It is also necessary to bring a identity card or driver's license with you. The donation usually takes five to ten minutes, followed by a ten -minute relaxation break.

stem cell donation - an important addition

In addition to the blood donation, potential stem cell donors can be typed. This is done by removing a small blood tube after the blood donation. The tissue characteristics are determined in the laboratory of the Stefan Morsch Foundation and stored anonymously in the German central register and in the international donor file. During a blood donation campaign in Birkenfeld, 170 blood donors and 20 first donors were registered, including almost 20 people were typed as potential stem cell donors.

Typing is free of charge for healthy, adults under the age of 40. A contribution of 50 euros is due for people over the age of 40, but these donors are saved in the file up to the age of 61. Exclusion criteria for the stem cell donation are age over 55 years and certain health requirements, especially for women with more than two pregnancies.

For more information on blood and stem cell donation, interested parties can contact the free hotline of the Stefan Morsch Foundation, which can be reached at 08 00-766 77 24, or the DRK blood donation service West at 0800 -11 949 11.

These initiatives show how important and life -saving solidarity in society is, and they emphasize the need to regularly donate blood and to gain potential stem cell donors. This not only covers the current need for blood products, but also the hope for many sick people is created. Further information on the events and typing measures can be found in the reports of the Stefan-Morsch-Foundation .
