regulatory changes and heating oil consumption

With the entry into force of the building energy law (AGE) in 2024, there will be no obligation to exchange heating to municipal heat planning. However, oil heaters that are older than 30 years must be replaced. This affects those plants that were installed before January 1, 1991. Exceptions are intended for heating systems with an output of under 4 kW or over 400 kW as well as for low temperature or condensing technology.

In Rhineland-Palatinate, around 26.9% of the residential buildings use heating oil, which corresponds to around 0.3 million residential buildings. Funding is available to support the exchange of outdated heating systems.

In addition, oil prices declined in the past week. According to current information from Tecson, the heating oil reference price in Germany is 95.9 ct/l on Monday and is therefore 0.3% cheaper than on Friday. Compared to a week ago, the prices fell by 4.0%.

An even broader insight into the price development of the energy types is offered in a report by the Federal Statistical Office, which regularly summarizes the producer prices of commercial products and import and export prices. These reports are decisive for a better understanding of energy price development in Germany.
