Focus on air rescue: Intensive exercises of the IMSweiler station started!
From April 28th to 30th, 2025, an intensive training of the ADAC air rescue of the Imsweiler station in the West Palatinate takes place on the Zweibrücken airfield. As part of this program, complex use scenarios are carried out with the rescue winch. This training is of crucial importance not only for emergency doctors, but also for the entire air rescue community.
The training extends daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is carried out in cooperation with the Kaiserslautern professional fire brigade and the Rhineland-Palatinate mountain rescue service. The residents of the area are not affected. Particular focus on the procedural security of the emergency doctors when transporting and evacuating patients.
missions with the rescue winch
During training, emergency doctors are deposed on the roof of the fire simulation system by means of the rescue winch. There you have to supply an exercise doll and carry out the first aid to ensure the transportability of the "patient". Then it is returned to both the emergency doctor and the exercise doll to the helicopter.
A total of around 25 participants from various areas of the emergency services will actively take part in the exercises. This includes pilots, flight instructors, emergency paramedics with wind qualification and employees of the ADAC HEMS Academy. The training also includes specific mountain rescues in which a lifeguard triangle is used in sloping terrain.
investments for air rescue
In order to increase efficiency in wind inserts, the ADAC air rescue recently invested in a new van. This is equipped with modern radio devices, helmets and ropes. The van is part of an extended operational concept that is specifically geared towards disasters. In the past, 552 missions were already carried out with the rescue winch in 2024.
The helicopter "Christoph 66", which was put into service in August 2019, has flown over 5,400 missions since its introduction and is therefore an indispensable partner in the region's emergency care. The station is stationed on the special landing site in Imsweiler in the Donnersberg district and covers a wide area of application that includes the city and the district of Kaiserslautern as well as the districts of Kusel and Birkenfeld.
These measures are part of the nationwide air rescue system in Germany, which has existed since the 1970s as a supplement to the soil -bound emergency service. Since the first field trials with helicopters to rescue the accident in the 1960s, air rescue has developed considerably and is now operated by numerous organizations, including the ADAC and DRF. It plays an increasingly important role in structurally weak areas.
The financing of these life -saving services is carried out by cost carriers such as the health insurance companies, which means that the patients themselves do not incur any costs for the use of the rescue fund.
Overall, air rescue is strengthened not only by its operational skills, but also by innovative training and equipment strategies. The upcoming exercises in Zweibrücken are an example of how the ADAC air rescue continuously works on improving your services.
