New Year's Eve alarm: Animals suffer from fireworks noise and stress!

The nature conservation group-close-grade appeals to the population on the occasion of the upcoming New Year's Eve festival to take into account the wildlife. In local recreation areas that serve as a retreat for rare bird species and other animals, the time can become a stressful phase at the turn of the year. According to the nature conservation group, the noise of fireworks is a considerable strain on dogs, cats and wild animals that experience fear through the bright noises.

In order to protect the wildlife, the nature conservation group demands that animals are not disturbed or endangered in their habitat. It is also pointed out that the shooting of fireworks is prohibited outside of New Year's Eve and that these regulations should be observed in order to protect animal welfare. Violations of these rules can result in legal consequences, including fines and imprisonment. The overarching goal is to preserve nature and its residents for future generations, according to the group.

loads from fireworks

As the Austria Chamber of Agriculture emphasizes in a current report, animals suffer from the loud bright noise of fireworks during New Year's Eve. According to the information, the sound levels can reach the fireworks in a radius of 15 meters up to 170 decibels. For comparison: A nozzle engine achieves 140 decibels at a distance of 25 meters. Since animals have particularly fine ears, the noises represent an immense load that can trigger stress reactions in farm animals. Excessive noise increases the fear of the animals because they cannot prepare for the sudden noises.

The negative effects are not only limited to the well -being of the animals. According to the reports, excessive noise can also affect milk production of cattle and disturb the brunish cycle. According to the warnings, health problems such as weight loss and reduced egg production can occur in chickens. In addition, the environment is contaminated by the garbage and the pollutants that arise from fireworks. It is estimated that around 1,000 tons of garbage from fireworks occur annually in Austria. Raket residues can also get into the feed and cause serious injuries or even the death of animals.

In addition, the risk of fire for agricultural buildings is addressed. In order to counteract the burdens of fireworks, alternative, animal and environmentally friendly options such as music laser shows or drones are proposed that can enable a less disruptive celebration.
