Buseck celebrates Carnival: Mayor Ranft and the storm on the castle!
On January 20, 2025, Buseck experienced a turbulent day that was shaped by carnival and local political challenges. Mayor Michael Ranft, who has been in office for three years, attracted attention with a new colorful swimming trunks. Together with numerous carnivalists, he stormed the buseck lock. Led by Katja Brandt (KFC), Tim Burbach (CVA) and Sven Schellhaas (KVB), the fool's team followed with torches and the fanfare train "Hansa Gießen".
During the political program, important local topics were addressed in a handmade speech, including the renovation of the Harbig Hall, the desired opening of the outdoor pool and the nationwide Rhein-Main-Link. There was also a humorous recommendation to use more asparagus. Mayor Ranft took the opportunity to address the worrying financial Situation of the community, which is characterized by high debt and upcoming construction sites. After the storm on the castle, the cultural center celebrated until the early hours of the morning, while 21 dance groups were entertained from eleven clubs.
financial challenges are in space
The financial situation of the municipality of Buseck is tense. There is still no adopted budget for 2025, and a record deficit is expected. Already in 2023, 2.3 million euros were put into the reserve, but a deficit emerged in 2024. Significant expenses due to rising district and school levies as well as higher personnel costs, which are one million euros more, also burden financial planning. The property tax reform also leads to different payments for property owners and brings the municipality to the bottom line of 110,000 euros less income.
In order to improve the situation, restructuring in the administration is necessary in the municipality that aim at efficiency increases. The daycare sector recorded progress, all goals of the daycare concept are already implemented or in planning, which gives hope. Nevertheless, the renovation backlog, especially with the Harbig Hall and the daycare centers, remains an urgent problem. In Oppenrod, necessary ordnance examinations are required, while lizards had to be resettled in Alten-Buseck.
outlook for the future
Mayor Ranft is unsure about a possible further term that could depend on the majority relationships after the local elections. A fire engine in Beuern has been waiting for commissioning for nine years, but its renovation is to be completed in 2025. In the area of fiber optic expansion there are stalls due to defects in building teams, which inhibits the community in its digital development.
Another problem is the search for a new operator for the outdoor pool on the Wieseck island, since the previous operator has jumped off. Ranft hopes for a factual local political climate in which good ideas can be implemented regardless of political factions. These developments show a municipality in the departure, but with many construction sites that need to be mastered. Together, the citizens hope that the positive mood of the carnival will also find their way into the political bodies and take a step in the right direction.
