Sculptures by Christoph Anders: Exhibition in Wittlich to Palm Sunday!

On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, a service in the St. Paul motorway and cycle path church is celebrated in Wittlich-Wengerohr at 7 p.m. Father Stephan Senge and Predican Uschi Fusenig will participate. As part of this event, an exhibition with sculptures by the renowned sculptor Christoph Anders will also open, who, at 86 years, has an impressive artistic career. Different comes from Senheim and his works can be found in numerous sacred places.

The art of Christoph Anders, which is already exhibited in places such as Bad Bertrich and Cochem, is known for having a strongly emotional and reminiscent character. Particularly noteworthy is a memorial that, differently in 1986 to commemorate the prisoners of the KZ outer warehouse, Cochem. These profound work testify to an examination of history, the wounds of which also represent an invitation to reflect on the present and a suggestion to perceive past injustices.

exhibition in St. Paul

The exhibition in St. Paul will present a selection of its most important sculptures and is open every day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Palm Sunday. The organizer of the exhibition is the St. Paul Wittlich e.V.

The examination of history is not only limited to art differently. In a completely different context, Manfred Ostermann reports of experiences from the Third Reich. He describes how a Nazi party party in Bruttig harassed a family whose sons were not registered in the Hitler youth. This illustrates how strong the pressure and uncertainty were during this time.

geocaching as a culture of remembrance

At the same time, Geocaching promotes dealing with German history. Gisela Schmitt made of breeding fan fan discovered a geocache of the Alamo.Team Cochem. This game, which is similar to a kind of scavenger hunt with GPS, aims to motivate young people to deal with National Socialist crimes and their meaning. Such initiatives are important in order to maintain the memory of the past and to teach that history should not be forgotten.

The handling of art and memory is also important against the background of the National Socialist past. Art in the Third Reich was characterized by the ideology of the regime, which defamed modern and avant -garde works as "degenerate". This led to a massive loss of cultural diversity and the annihilation of numerous artist biographies and their works. In the years after the war there was hardly any examination of this inheritance; Many works of art from this time were forgotten, and often it was not enabled to present their perspectives.

The service in the St. Paul motorway church and the accompanying exhibition by Christoph Anders not only offer a space for art and spirituality, but also a platform for reflection on the past and its influence on the present.
