In the coming weeks, the police are planning to control speed controls in several regions. Comprehensive measurements are planned to increase traffic safety in the affected areas. The controls are carried out by the Trier police headquarters and should include both mobile and stationary measurements.

For the 4th calendar week, which begins on Monday, January 20, 2025, the police headquarters have set a number of specific measurement locations. The controls take place on the following days and locations:

The police emphasize that in addition to these announced controls, there will also be other mobile and inpatient speed measurements in order to animate drivers to comply with the speed limits. An important factor that is often overlooked is the importance of speed limits for traffic safety and quality of life in the respective communities. In Austria in particular, a study shows that with 72 % out of 1.5 million cars measured at 30-zones, the majority of drivers are traveling too quickly. This underlines the need to take speed violations seriously and to reduce by targeted controls to reduce the risk of accidents.

Influence of speed controls

There is no question that speed limits are indispensable for safety in traffic. As an investigation shows, the third most common cause of accidents in Austria has not been adapted in the past three years. In Germany, too, the authorities face similar challenges. Here it was found that 65 % of those surveyed drove too quickly in the local area in the past 30 days, which illustrates the urgency of such controls.
