A theoretical part was also part of the exam. BI Jörg Koschig and BM Tobias Bock were used as referees and security officers and thus ensured a smooth process.

The history of the fire brigade

The tradition of the fire brigade goes far back and can be followed until the Roman period. The first fire brigade in the Roman Empire was 21 BC BC founded with 600 slaves. In the Middle Ages, the municipalities were responsible for organizing fire protection. Towerers and night watchmen reliably reported fires. Contemporary equipment mostly consisted of buckets, ladders and single hooks.

Especially the invention of the hose in the 16th century - initially from sewn leather - revolutionized fire fighting. With the introduction of hand pumps that were used until the 20th century, the efficiency of the fire departments significantly improved. The development in the field of technical equipment took a decisive upswing with the invention of the combustion engine.

Voluntary fire brigades, often emerged from gymnastics clubs, began in Europe in the early modern period. In Germany, many fire departments were created during the bourgeois revolution around 1848, and the first German volunteer fire brigade, which was organized according to today's understanding, was founded in Meißen in 1841. Historical fire protection regulations that came into force in the 13th and 14th centuries show how important fire protection was from the start.

For fire brigade enthusiasts and interested citizens, the upcoming festival of the ENNEST fire brigade not only offers entertainment, but also the opportunity to find out about the long, traditional history of fire brigades and their important role in today's society. At a successful festival and many exciting insights into the world of the fire brigade!
