City council extended downtown closure: citizens feel ignored!
On March 20, 2025, the City Council of Cochem decided to extend the downtown closure to the entire year. This decision has not remained without controversy and still causes excitement in the region. In particular, the Free Voter Community (FWG) expresses sharp criticism of the city's approach, since it believes that the will of the citizens was not sufficiently taken into account.
The discussions about the blocking have dragged on over a longer period of time and affect many residents. They complain that their interests in the consultations were only insufficiently given to the space. In order to counteract this, the Cochemer Bürgergemeinschaft (CBG) brought an application for discussion that deals with the possible establishment of a pedestrian zone in the city center.
information system of the community
The seats in all committees of the community are now equipped with session documents via this new system. From published documents, users can view the content on the homepage of the community. A button leads to an external link of the information system, which can be reached via the website www.vgcochem.de
Citizens can access the citizens' information system without registration and thus view announcements, invitations, draft resolutions and the writings. Council members, on the other hand, have the opportunity to register and thereby gain unrestricted access to all documents. However, publicly accessible information is clearly delimited by non -public documents, which creates transparency that welcomes many citizens.
The website itself is largely self -explanatory, and users have the option of selecting meetings via the menu item "Calendar" or by targeted selection of the respective committee under "Research".
at a time when citizen participation and transparency are of the utmost importance, the introduction of this information system should be seen as a positive sign of the community. However, the question remains whether the decisions made to block the city center will still have the desired influence on the formation of opinion of the citizens.
